Tenma’s heart-stopping victory in the $300,000 Del Mar Debutante (G1) on Sept. 7 gave Bob Baffert his record 11th winner of the seven-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies.

Tenma, who won her debut by a neck on Aug. 18 over the same surface going five and one-half furlongs, needed every inch of the Del Mar stretch to win on Saturday.

Tenma was several lengths off the early pace as Nooni zipped the half-mile in :44.38. Nooni gave up the lead to Vodka With a Twist turning for home, with Tenma launching a three-wide bid. The two were inseparable for the final furling, with Tenma getting the nod on the wire.

“I rode her the other day when she won first time our and she did well closing,” said jockey Kazushi Kimura. “The plan was to try to do the same thing today. I saw those two fillies up front working on each other and I was happy with my spot. She closed well for me. I think she’s going to want to run farther.”

Tenma, owned by the Baoma Corp., has earned $225,000 in her two victories.
