Gabby’s Golden Gal earns second G1 win in Santa Monica
The Baffert-trained filly Gabby’s Golden Girl earned her second Grade 1 victory on Jan. 31st when the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro scored an impressive 1 ¼-length win in the $250,000 Santa Monica H. (G1) at Santa Anita.
Gabby’s Golden Gal broke well from her outside draw and pressed the pace three-wide down the backstretch of the seven-furlong race. As the field rounded the far turn and straightened for home, the brilliant filly took command and kicked home nicely, securing the victory in the final furlong. She hit the wire in 1:21.25 over the local synthetic surface, earning a 95 Beyer Speed Figure for the win.
The Santa Monica score represented her second in a Grade 1. Gabby’s Golden Gal captured the Acorn S. (G1) on dirt at Belmont last June as a 3-year-old. Campaigned by owner and breeder Arnold Zetcher, the bay filly now boasts a record of 4-1-1 from nine starts with earnings of $499,405.
