Fun to Dream looked ready for stiffer competition in her stakes debut on July 28 at Del Mar, drawing away in the stretch to take the $175,000 Fleet Treat S. by 9 ¾-lengths.

The victory was a home team win of sorts for the Baffert barn. The 3-year-old filly was bred by her trainer and Connie Pageler, and is owned by Pageler and Baffert’s wife Jill. Fun to Dream is a daughter of Arrogate, who Baffert trained to wins in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Travers S., Dubai World Cup, and the Pegasus World Cup Inv., all Grade 1 events.

Fun to Dream was making her second lifetime start in the Fleet Treat following a Santa Anita maiden win in late May. Opening Buzz led the field through a quarter in :21.85, with Fun to Dream just two lengths back in fourth. Fun to dream made her move for the lead midway on the turn, with the :44.59 half-mile taking its toll on Opening Buzz.

Fun to Dream was up by three lengths at the top of the stretch and widened that margin the rest of the way, finishing up the seven furlongs in 1:22.67 on a fast track.

“We knew that 3 (Opening Buzz) looked really impressive on paper and really fast, so he was in a good spot, we sat off of her patiently,” said Baffert. “It was her second out; hopefully we’ll try her in some open company.”

Fun to Dream has earned $139,950 in her two starts. Her dam Lutess has produced three winners, including three-time stakes winner Heck Yeah.
