Conveyance works over muddy Churchill track
One day after Lookin at Lucky worked over an off track at Churchill Downs, Bob Baffert sent out Conveyance, his other Kentucky Derby (G1) contender, out for his final pre-Derby workout Tuesday morning over a similar racetrack. The off going didn’t seem to mind the big gray colt, as he rattled off five furlongs in a lively :59 2/5 seconds, galloping out in 1:13 1/5. His splits were :13, :25 1/5, :36 3/5, and :48.
Like Lookin At Lucky, Conveyance was ridden in the work by exercise rider Dana Barnes.
Baffert addressed the media after the work. “He worked well. He went off easily like we wanted him to, and he finished up really well through the stretch,” said the Hall of Fame trainer. “He looked like his old self. I saw what I was looking for.”
With all the major work done, Baffert will play the waiting game until Wednesday, Apr. 28, when the post position draw for Kentucky Derby 136 will be set at approximately noon Eastern time.
Baffert is looking forward to the next couple of days. “This is the fun part now,” said Baffert. “Now you can just sit back and enjoy the festivities. Now we can relax. All the serious stuff is done now.”
