Chasing Yesterday annexes Anoakia S.

Chasing Yesterday got her first stakes win on Oct. 14 when the 2-year-old filly wore down It’sjustanillusion to take the Anoakia S. by a half-length at Santa Anita Park.

The chestnut Tapit filly out of Littleprincessemma is a half-sister to Baffert’s 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.

“She showed us that she’s a stakes winner now,” said Baffert after the win. “She just went up in price. That was a nice filly that she beat today.”

Sitting a few lengths off the pace for the backstretch run, Chasing Yesterday cut into the margin around the turn, then engaged It’sjustanillusion in upper stretch, eventually getting by her very game foe in deep stretch to secure the win

“She’s nice,” said jockey Drayden Van Dyke, who was aboard the winner for the first time today. “I’ll tell you what, that horse that ran second, It’sjustanillusion, hats off to her, she really made me run. That horse dug in, but my filly dug in too and ran a helluva race.”

Chasing Yesterday, who runs for her breeder Summer Wind Equine, broke her maiden by four lengths first time out on July 28 at Del Mar, then had a rough trip in Saratoga’s Spinaway S. (G1) before Sunday’s win.  She has earned $84,250.
