Eda scored a gritty victory in a three-horse photo in the $200,000 Great Lady M (G2) on Independence Day at Los Alamitos to run her winning streak to six races.

The streak dates back to October of 2021 and includes five stakes wins, three of them graded, topped by the Starlet (G1).

The Great Lady M dates back to 1941, with Baffert winning the race a record seven times, including in 2021, when the champion Gamine won the 6 ½-furlong race by a record 10 lengths.

Eda was in a tussle from the start of Tuesday’s race. She and Elm Drive hooked up in a speed duel that went :21.50 and :44.07 through the first half-mile. After turning for home, they continued side-by-side until the final sixteenth, when a fast-closing Chismosa joined the fight. Eda got the best of her foes by a neck over Chismosa, with Elm Drive just another neck back in third.

The final time was a solid 1:15.06 on a fast track.

“She broke quick and I let her get comfortable,” said winning rider Juan Hernandez. “When she started to feel the pressure, she knew it was time to go. When she saw that horse (Chismosa) on the outside, she didn’t want to get passed. She was very game and showed a lot of heart.”

Owned by the Baoma Corp., Eda is 7-1-0 in nine starts and has earned $592,600.
