Reincarnate goes gate-to-wire in Los Alamitos Derby

Bob Baffert scored his seventh consecutive Los Alamitos Derby win on July 8 when Reincarnate scored a 2 ½-length win in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds. Baffert has a record 13 wins overall in the race.

Reincarnate, who was last seen in the May 6 Kentucky Derby (G1), went right to the front on Saturday and wasn’t under any pressure as he covered the first six furlongs on 1:11.99. He began to pull away from Prince Abu Dhabi at the top of the stretch and wasn’t threatened at all from then on. He finished the distance in 1:48.72 on a fast track.

“I told Juan (jockey Hernandez) that he was back to how he was when he last won,” said Baffert. “It was very important to get the win especially when you know how good (runner-up) Skinner is. This race always comes up tough and it was a big win for the team.”

Reincarnate is owned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Stonestreet Stables, Jay A. Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital & Catherine Donovan. His lone stakes win prior to Saturday was the Sham S. (G3) in January. He has earned $420,650.
