Back to the Big Easy for Indian Blessing
Hal and Patti Earnhardt’s champion homebred Indian Blessing is tentatively scheduled to make a return trip to New Orleans for her next start in the $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) on Feb. 9, where the undefeated 3-year-old filly will take her next step towards her spring goal of the Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Indian Blessing came out of her last effort, the Silverbulletday (G3) at Fair Grounds, in good order, according to trainer Bob Baffert, and will shoot next for the March 8 race at 1 1/16 miles. Fittingly, Baffert captured the 1999 Kentucky Oaks with Silverbulletday, who also won the Fair Grounds Oaks and is the namesake of the race of Indian Blessing’s latest dominant performance.
Now perfect from five starts with earnings of more than $1.5 million, Indian Blessing showed another dimension in winning the Silverbulletday, rating comfortably behind the pacesetter before roaring home with her typical acceleration in the stretch that won her the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) last October.
Indian Blessing is a true homebred with a rich family history for trainer Bob Baffert, as he conditioned the brilliant filly’s sire, Indian Charlie, as well as her stakes-winning dam, Shameful for the Earnhardts.
