Indian Blessing: Champ repeats in Gallant Bloom (G2)

Tuesday | September 29, 2009

Champion Indian Blessing used a determined stretch drive to capture the $150,000 Gallant Bloom H. (G2) on Sept. 26th at Belmont Park for the second consecutive year.

Indian Blessing showed her usual brilliance throughout, contesting the pace before establishing her class in the late going. She fought off Sara Louise by a head to win the 6 ½-furlong race in 1:15.29 over a fast track. The performance earned Indian Blessing a 103 Beyer Speed Figure. She earned a 106 Beyer in winning last year’s Gallant Bloom by 6 ¼ lengths.

Trained by Baffert for owners and breeders Hal and Patti Earnhardt, Indian Blessing moved her earnings to just shy of $3 million ($2,995,420), now sporting a record of 10-5-0 from 16 starts. She owns nine graded stakes wins – five of those Grade 1 triumphs.

Indian Blessing, who was the undefeated Eclipse champion 2-year-old filly of 2007, is a product of two former Baffert and Earnhardt campaigners. Her sire is Grade 1 winner Indian Charlie and her dam is the stakes-winning Flying Chevron mare Shameful.
