Enbarr breaks maiden in Capote S.

After a close second in his Aug. 1 maiden debut at Del Mar, Enbarr came back to get his first victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Capote S. at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The 2-year-old Bob Baffert trainee won the 6 ½-furlong contest by a length over Montebello, Coming from a few lengths off the pace to engage the front-running Montebello at the head of the stretch, Enbarr won a protracted stretch duel to stop the timer in 1:16.33 on a fast track.

“We thought Enbarr would be showing the way early and Montebello would be a couple of lengths off him,” assistant trainer Mike Marlow said. “They broke and that’s how it ended up with Montebello in front and Enbarr tracking.

“They’re both good horses. I think Montebello is going to be better around two turns. He’s got that high cruising speed while Enbarr is just a fast horse.”

Enbar is owned by the Baoma Corporation and has banked $57,500 in his two starts. The bay colt was bred by H. Allen Poindexter, Mark Toothaker, Denny Minnehand and Wynnstay LLC. Enbar’s dam, Star of Gallantry, is also the dam of stakes-placed Carimba.

Enbar was a $200,000 purchase by his owner at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling sale.
